I've been ignoring the use of tags on my LJ, partly because I'm too lazy to go back and retro-tag all my posts.

But I've found a new use for them, and I love it.

My latest fic is one of those whose research I'm going nuts over, so much so that I'm wondering if it's going to be another case where I get so buried in the research that the fic never gets written. (I hope not. I've got eight chapters done so far and it'd be a shame to leave it hanging, even if it's a loss for no one but myself as I haven't shown it to a single soul yet.)

Either way, LJ turns out to be a great way for me to keep track of my notes, which as one long 12-page double-columned 9-pt Word document was getting unwieldy. I created a (private) sockpuppet and put my notes and drafts there, one topic per entry, cross-referenced using tags. It's like an electronic set of index cards, which I'm sure is not a new idea. It works pretty well, though it's hard to arrange them in a specific order, but when I click on a specific tag it's generally easy enough to find what I want. Even better, I can log into it from any computer and access/update my notes without carrying files around.

(I just glanced at it. Ack...52 separate note topics? I think I may be overdoing it with the research.)

Wow, I log back in after the weekend and I'm up to 100 userpics. And just to think last week I was trying to trim some of them down! I actually don't know what to do. I gripe about lack of space, I get it it, and now I don't even know where to start. (I'm not complaining! I'm sure I'll get it sorted soon enough!)
