My local library has the soundtrack to the Van Helsing animated feature, though not the feature itself. How obscure is that?

Still doing all right on my VH story Subject to Change despite more or less making it up as I go along, which is something I've never tried before. I'm "cheating" a little bit by posting several chapters behind what I've actually written (I've finished eight chapters, and only posted four), but still remaining as true to the spirit as possible by revisiting previous chapters as little as I can, and moving ahead with whatever situation I've written myself into. The biggest change I've made so far with my unposted chapters was to cut an entire one and save it for later, as it's more or less a "filler" chapter and I realized that it was just making the leisurely pace deadly slow. I lost one or two jokes in the moving, but them's the breaks.

I sense a slowdown in my writing speed coming up ahead, though, as I'm going to need to do a little research before I proceed. Sure, it's mostly a humorous story, but that's no reason to get sloppy with the details is there? Let's see if I come to regret writing myself into this bit.

At least the fact that I've started to post the story will pretty much ensure that I keep going at it. Sometimes I get so deep into the research that the story itself falls by the wayside. It happened with Sky Captain; I managed to get one story out before my casual research into P-40s turned into reading the P-40 pilot's manual, model-building, the history of the AVG, and finally to WWII history in general. WWII history is now something that occupies chunks of my free time, and I'm not sure if I'm going to let go of that long enough to do another SCATWOT story any time soon. I also did a lot of research into guns and guitars for a story years ago, and wound up doing more research than writing (I left the story half-finished)...fortunately, a few years later, that research turned out to be (almost) just the thing I needed for OUATIM. So that worked out just fine.

Not that I mind giving up the story for the research, to be honest. One of the things I love about fandom is that it motivates me to learn things I would never have thought of otherwise (I avoided history like the plague in school). Still, I'd like to see this latest story through to the end...whenever that will be!
