Rest in peace, Cyd Charisse.

I was blown away by you in Brigadoon, It's Always Fair Weather, and of course Singin' in the Rain. You were amazing and stunningly beautiful, you never put a foot wrong, and you make it all look so easy. You were truly one of the greats.

More clippings featuring Newsies actors.
Stuff I rescued from my old, old magazine stash, as I'm in the process of purging it:

Christian Bale in Treasure Island, original broadcast, 1/21/1990

TV Guide pic/blurb on Roundhouse for the new fall season, 9/12/1992

Somewhere I've got a TV guide pic of Luke Edwards in I Know My First Name. That issue I did save on purpose, but only because I was a Corin Nemec fan.

My Metallicar made the "Hot New Projects" slideshow over at Craftster yesterday, which I'm pretty thrilled about.

As big craft projects go, this had the shortest span of time between inception, supplies-buying, and beginning (not finishing, though, ha) the actual work, all in less than 24 hours. I'm guessing my recent DVD binge (more than half of S2 in a week) had something to do with the impetus.

I'd take this as a good sign that I'm starting to dither less over starting my projects, if not for the Master & Commander shadow box game that I've been sitting on for two months now.

I will hug it and squeeze it and call it Metallicar.
No. 6 in my series of stuffed toys.

Because I just needed something to cuddle through the long, long cliffhanger summer.

ETA:
Folks, I love love love the sweet comments you all have been leaving, you've brightened up my week (and cheered up the Impala no end). I am, however, making myself go cold turkey on LJ for a couple of days as I have a class project I MUST finish OR ELSE hellhounds will come after me So if I haven't replied to you yet, apologies, and I'll get back to you in a few days. Wish me luck...
Back now, thanks for being patient.

ETA 2:
I've gotten some requests for patterns/finished cars. I don't know yet what my schedule will allow, but if you're interested and want to know when/if I might be able to put something together in the future, drop me a note at lynnedhenson @ yahoo . com

ETA 2a:
I plan to do a (very) limited number of finished Impalas in the near future, again subject to my schedule. I've a few ideas for improvements, and if those work out, I'll see if I can put together a set of patterns. Again, if you're interested in either, e-mail me or leave a comment.

ETA 2b:
I've reached the limit of number of cars I think I can finish in the near future (thank you!). There's enough interest so far for a second batch (in the undetermined future) so you can still e-mail/comment if you'd like one. Due to the complexity and hand-made nature of the stuffed Metallicar, cost will be $60 + approx $5 packaging/shipping if you're in the US. Patterns + instructions, if I manage to pull them together, will probably be $15 - $17.

ETA 3 (6/15/08): The waitlist for finished cars is now capped off and everyone who's on the waitlist should have heard from me by now. If you're not on the list you can still e-mail me; it's just that I can't guarantee I'll be doing any more. Thank you!

Would hurl out on ear, and set dogs on.
The two things currently getting heavy rotation in my DVD player (and in my fandom headspace) are Supernatural and Jeeves & Wooster.

I gotta tell you, jumping back and forth between the two is the WEIRDEST thing.

So I finally got around to watching the final few episodes of this season of SPN, including the kickass season finale.

Ohhhhhh boy. Now I've got to catch up on stuff I've been missing since middle of S1.

Anyone know where early S3 episodes (i.e., anything that's scrolled off CW's site) can be found?

Jeeves And The Charm Bracelet: Now With Train.
"Well, sir, if I might make the suggestion: if we are to travel by train, perhaps a simple brown Harris tweed such as this might be more appropriate."

"That's absolute rot, Jeeves."

My friend found me a lovely little train charm, so in honor of all the trains taken for a leisurely visit to the coast or as a hasty getaway from rampaging aunts, I've added it to my J&W charm bracelet.

Oh my burning eyes.
Stayed up WAY too late the past couple nights, because Youtube now has several hundred--if not thousand--percent more Fry & Laurie content than it did almost precisely two years ago, which is the last time I went on an F&L kick.

Current favorite bit, hands down: the "Hedge Sketch," which appears in the first half of this here clip. If this isn't unadulterated brilliance, I don't know what is.

ETA: I made the mistake tonight of not only remembering/discovering the LJ vid comms, but also looking up Rik & Ade on Youtube (the latter because I grew nostalgic while transferring my VHS copies of Bottom Live 1-3 to DVD). The sheer volume of stuff out there oh lord, I...wha...::head explodes::

Jeeves And The Charm Bracelet.
I've been a fan of the Fry & Laurie Jeeves and Wooster, and of the Jeeves stories, for over a decade. Every few years I "rediscover" them, much to my delight.

This time around, they provided the inspiration for my latest piece of jewelry.

Shadow boxes are go!
We got the details hashed out and they gave me the thumbs-up on the prototype, so now I'll be making a small run of handmade shadow box games for the Dresden Dolls' upcoming online store in May!

It'll be a lot of labor, but I'm really pleased to get this commission and anything that gives me more excusereason to work with shadow boxes is good by me.

Besides, I have a hard time getting "Coin Operated Boy" out of my head now.

David Threlfall.
More things spotted while clearing out my old stash of assorted TV guides.

Posted for [info]grace_poppy's amusement: Ads for David Threlfall in A Casualty of War, from the Chicago Tribune 3/11/1990.

Am I going senile already?
Huh.

One of the things I'll always remember about my time in Starsky & Hutch fandom was that it marked the start of a long period of no story-writing for me. I stopped doing fanfic prose altogether and published/posted only fan poetry, something that would continue for the next seven years through several other fandoms (until LOTR came along). At most, I only attempted one SH story, which never got past page 3 or 4 and which I never showed anyone.

Or so I thought.

Now I'm clearing out files from my old computer and I'm finding drafts and story notes for several other SH fics that I don't really remember. Now, at the time I did help edit a zine plus I was beta-ing for some friends, so it's possible they're someone else's fics...but the drafts/notes are structured very much in my style, down to abbreviations and placeholders and whatnot. Even the writing style--sentence structure, pacing, descriptions, etc.--sounds like, for the most part, the sort of thing I'd write.

But I don't remember writing it.

This is weird...
